LeeAnn Petersen is a Principal at Cox Petersen. Cox Petersen provides communications, research, fundraising, corporate and political event planning and issue advocacy and management solutions to political, non-profit and corporate organizations. LeeAnn has been involved in government relations, public affairs, sales and marketing for the last 20 years. She began her career in California working at the local and state level of government before moving permanently to Washington DC to work for U.S. Congressman George E Brown, Jr. (D-CA). She later took a job as Director of Planning and Development with Dutko Worldwide, now one of the most prestigious lobbying and public relations firms in Washington, DC. LeeAnn’s focus with Dutko was new client development and strategic planning for clients. This usually meant helping clients repackage and rebrand themselves in the face of legislative challenges or opportunities.
In 1996, LeeAnn split off from Dutko and started her own company, LegiServe, which provided legislative support for lobbyists including hearing attendance, research, bill tracking and monitoring and grant writing. Her clients included Washington offices of state and local governments and firms representing municipalities. LegiServe later began providing public relations, sales and marketing to non-lobbying clients such as the Millennium Arts Center, the Frederick Douglass House Museum, and Schooner Liberte. After doing some work for Volvo Group North America (VGNA) LeeAnn was invited to come on full time as Manager of Government Relations where she worked for four years on legislation pertaining to the heavy duty vehicle industry. She also worked to raise the profile of the organization among Congress and the federal government. Towards the end of her tenure with Volvo Group, LeeAnn spearheaded Volvo Subsidiary Mack Truck’s effort to re-enter the military market selling trucks to the armed services.
LeeAnn left Volvo to start her freelance consulting career handling sales, marketing and public affairs for Off the Wall Products, LLC, manufacturers of traffic control barricades and barriers. She later joined forces with Command Strategies where she handled marketing, fundraising and public relations for a wide variety of clients past and present including the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), DMC Worldwide, NextNow Mobile Communications, CertiClear Job Counter, Llesiant, Hadley Products and IBC Advanced Alloys. LeeAnn left Command Strategies to produce events at both the Republican National Convention in Tampa and the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte in 2012. Since then, LeeAnn has been working full time to produce the first ever Professional Women in Advocacy Conference, now in its third year.
